Masterclass – Cardiff International Academy of Conducting
ESO is delighted to collaborate with the Cardiff International Academy of Conducting for a special masterclass focusing on Gustav Mahler, Symphony no. 9 in the arrangement by Klaus Simon.
ESO’s Artistic Director and Principal Conductor, Kenneth Woods will work with eight talented participants on the musical and technical issues involved in a work of this magnitude. Thursday 24th features workshops with piano duet preparing for a full day with the ESO musicians on Friday 25th.
Sessions are at Wyastone Concert Hall from 10:30am – 5:30pm each day.

ESO Chamber Players with Joanna MacGregor
International pianist, Joanna MacGregor, joins the English Symphony Orchestra Chamber Players for a lunchtime concert featuring the Piano Quintet in C minor by Ralph Vaughan Williams. This work is full of expressive melody and late romantic passion and skilfully scored for piano, violin, viola, cello and double bass.
The programme also includes the ever popular F minor piano concerto by J S Bach with its beautiful slow movement.
Three tangos by the revolutionary tango musician and composer Astor Piazzolla arranged by Joanna MacGregor herself complete the programme.
