A celebration of the glorious tradition of English string orchestra music with Elgar at the heart of it all, his influence on today’s leading composers showcased in the concert’s second half.

Elgar’s moving and virtuosic masterpiece, Introduction and Allegro, opens the concert which continues with a performance of Vaughan Williams beloved Oboe Concerto with Britain’s leading oboe virtuoso, Nicholas Daniel. The second half of the concert continues with the premiere of Donald Fraser’s adaption of Elgar’s Songs for Strings, a project instigated and inspired by the ESO’s former Principal Guest Conductor, Yehudi Menuhin. Finally, David Matthews’ hugely praised string orchestra  of the Elgar String Quartet brings this gala celebration of Elgar’s legacy to a thrilling close.
